Fables, Chronicles and Love Letters
A Latin American short film programme by Cinema Mentiré for the V London Festival of Queer Spanish Culture
21 November 2025, 7.00PM | Hundred Years Gallery
A poem, a tale, a letter, a diary – cinema as writing, writing as cinema. This programme of Latin American queer short films, presented by Cinema Mentiré and Romancero, moves through literature in all its forms: urgent, intimate, and infinite.
Literature here is a mirror, a confession, the body: a place for self-reflection, for identity and sexual expression, for voices that insist on existing. These films inhabit writing as a tool of presence, of memory, of desire.
The letters that form words, the words that form sentences and the sentences that form expressions, all together, our voices, our speech, our narratives. Spanning Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, and Uruguay, this selection invites you to drift through sensations, visions and fragments at the crossroads of queer literature and cinema.
Carta a Lady | A Letter to Lady
Dir. Ariel Nahon, 2019, Argentina, 3’
Letter filmed in a single shot to the beloved ABCDEFG HIJKLMN OPQRST UVWXYZ (Lady Zunga), in which the filmmaker explores their body as a way to dialogue with her.
Pytagua/Extranjere | Pytagua/Foreigner
Dir. Sara J. Quintana, 2023, Paraguay, 7’
Foreignness as perpetual becoming: an exploration of the visible and invisible borders that define us, and how crossing territories transforms both the spaces we inhabit and our very identity.
El mundo es afuera | The World Is Out There
Dir. Pablo Roldán Fernández, Colombia, 2024, 22’
David is a shy sculptor who accepts a friend’s invitation. Her summer house might be the ideal place to read.
Calypso
Dir. Annalisa D. Quagliata, Mexico, 2016, 5’
Inspired by The Odyssey, a portrait of the nymph Calypso, who lures Odysseus to her island. Not beholden to the mythology, it offers a sensuous and surprising queer reinterpretation of the classic.

This event is an activity of the V London Festival of Queer Spanish Culture and will be part of an evening that will start with a reading and performance by Ángelo Néstore, who will present his debut novel Leche Cruda, intertwining it with songs by the great Italian divas of the 1960s – Mina, Mia Martini, and Patty Pravo.
The evening will then continue with our programme of Latin American short films Fables, Chronicles and Love Letters.
To close the night, Ana Quiroga will offer a session of active listening, where the audience will hear excerpts from her new album FILE COPY and reflect together with the artist on the themes that it evokes.
